Growing up in my family there was virtually no distinction between religion and euchre. It did not matter what the occasion was, if four or more of us got together, we were setting up the tables and going to euchre war! There was a definite progression in the development of a euchre player in the family. About the age of ten the children in the family were permitted to start hanging about the grown-up tables trying to learn the game and its strategy. If you were fortunate, someone might excuse themselves for a hand to freshen up or grab another beer, and you might get asked to sit in for the hand. What an honor! You always played that hand as well as you could, hoping someone would notice. Once they noticed you playing consistently well, you could join the grown-up tables full time. An absolute rite of passage to adulthood. Playing well meant learning euchre strategies: naming trump strategy, leading strategy, defending strategy, loner strategy. It was easy for me to learn euchre strategy; I just had to observe my father and uncles as they played.
College and my career have taken me far from my hometown and the family euchre gatherings. I can still find people who love to play euchre, but I am often amazed at how few of them have grasped the basic euchre strategy concepts that can propel them to be consistent winners. While nobody likes to be lectured, I have found that many players enjoy discussing a hand after it has been played and that strategy tips can often be delivered in those discussions. Most players want to improve their euchre game, they just need the tools to help them. That's why I created this website - to discuss and share euchre strategy!
Whether you have a burning passion for euchre like I do, or you just want to pick up a few useful euchre tips, then this site is the place for you! |
