Euchre is a game of position. Where you are seated in relation to the player who has the lead and the player who named trump dictate the best way to play your hand. To a lesser extent the score of the current game might also influence your strategy and decisions. I will go over some basic and advanced euchre strategies. In doing so I have developed a standardized system for illustrating the strategy concepts I present. It is much easier for players to learn by seeing as well as reading. Let's go over the conventions I use. The player who has named trump for the hand will be designated with a yellow star, and in the star will be the symbol of the suit named trump.
This player has named diamonds as trump for this hand.
The player who has lead for the current trick will be designated with a yellow arrow. This player has lead for the current trick.
The score in the current game will be posted thus: This game is just starting.
The Up Card at the start of a hand will be posted in the corner of the table, separate from the other cards, as shown: The dealer has turned up a Bower!
Hopefully these conventions are helpful and easy to follow.
